Fairfax County Public School System Selects Kahua

Fairfax County Public School System Selects Kahua to Manage Part of $1.2 Billion Capital Improvement Plan

Kahua, a leading provider of capital program and construction project management information systems (PMIS), has recently been selected to support Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) in Northern Virginia, one of the largest school districts in the U.S. with 198 schools and centers.

FCPS serves a diverse student population of more than 185,000 students in prekindergarten through grade 12. It is also one of the largest employers in Virginia with 24,839 full-time workers. Its five-year capital improvement program (CIP) budget of $1.2 billion dollars will be used for renovations, modular classrooms, existing school expansions and new school construction.

“FCPS needed an easy-to-use interface because it will have multiple teams with various levels of experience collaborating on projects,” said Heather Diez, Assistant Director of Design and Construction. “We appreciate that Kahua focuses on training and offers a system with intuitive user experience.”

FCPS specifically selected Kahua for Education, which is a set of solutions purpose-built for K-12. This system enables schools to manage the entire construction lifecycle of programs and is easily scaled to match the school district’s requirements.

“Kahua provides a robust set of out-of-the-box solutions and works with FCPS teams to continuously extend and customize the system’s functionality,” said Brian Moore, President at Kahua. “With our rapid implementation, schools are able to use the system within 90 days, minimizing time to value.”

Additionally, Kahua’s Document Management and Design Review workflow provides flexibility for open collaboration among internal team members. With clear communication, all comments regarding design can be appropriately addressed so that nothing slips through the cracks. This leads to a more complete and coordinated set of construction documents, reducing the potential for changes during construction.

FCPS is using Kahua internally with its project teams and externally with its architects, engineers and contractors to store and manage data all in one place. Because of Kahua’s flexibility, FCPS can manage permissions on a project-by-project basis.

Kahua significantly impacts school districts’ ability to manage capital programs. From scope to cost, schools can oversee the entire construction lifecycle with a focus on strategically designed spaces with the flexibility to adapt to regulations and processes for any project or program.
